Here are some of the ideas we came up with in the beginning.
TEST
What were some of the issues? One of the issues is that plants wouldn't be getting any carbon dioxide. If they were, there wouldn't be anywhere for the oxygen to go. Also, we discovered that our design doesn't work like hydroponics actually works. What aspects of the design would you keep? We would keep the lights, the water and the plants as they are all essential parts. IMPROVE How could you change your design? We might need to change the shape of the container because normal hydroponics takes a lot more space. This next design on the right includes a water tank but still needs some changes because the hydroponic system still won’t work as we only made one change. This design highlights the different materials that would be used, including spandex (for elasticity), urethane coated nylon to deal with pressurisation, dacron (a type of polyester for pressure restraining) and nylon tricot for the outer layer.

Our last design had the following changes: We added some oxygen and carbon dioxide tubes so then the plants can still live as they breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen.
This was quite a complicated issue to research and design a product. We needed a lot more time and expertise to come up with a solution that might actually work in space or on another planet.
