Here are some of the ideas the group came up with when we were brainstorming some of the issues relating to humans in space.
First we split into a few groups and brainstormed some ideas that might effect humans in space. Then we chose a few issues and finally chose the issue of nutrition and fresh food. Finally we changed our issue to the problem of growing fresh food and the access to it in space.
Issue: Access to fresh food as most space food is processed. Researching: The team created small questions to help with researching and used a table to gather the information. Each person in the project team gathered information on different questions. Why does this problem still exist? They have only been able to grow zinnia flowers and lettuce and haven’t been able to grow anything else. Why aren't the current solutions good enough? There aren’t any solutions at the moment that can let us grow bigger plants with bigger seeds. They have only grown zinnia flowers and lettuce and those are grown from smaller seeds. |
Interview:
Who we interviewed: We interviewed Houston Space Centre and we talked to a person that worked in the visitors' centre. Mr Perkins helped us set up the video conference. Interview Questions: Is it hard to take the supplies they need to grow food? What foods can be grown in space apart from lettuce & herbs? How long does it take to grow the food? Which foods are important for nutrition? How do they grow food in space? Can they take seedlings to space? How different is the growth of food in space compared to on Earth? How would space affect the taste of food? Can we grow crops in another planet? What planet? Could they grow crops on the moon? Here is some of the information we collected in the videoconference: |
